Join a local naturalist for Nature Hikes with beautiful views of Bass Lake.

Time:  Saturday mornings at 9:30 am
Location:  Departs from the Way of the Mono Trailhead

Bring water and comfortable hiking shoes.

Sierra Recreation is a Recreation Service Partner of the USDA Forest Service under a Special Use Permit.

Yosemite National Park Free Admission Day August 25th, 2017

Yosemite National Park will offer free admission into the park August 25, 2017. The fee free waiver is for all visitors in honor of National Park Service Founders’ Day.

Fees being waived include the fees associated with entrance into the park only. All other fees associated with camping, lodging, or activities within the park are not waived. The fee waiver is good for August 25, 2017 only.

Come by Bass Lake Water Sports this Saturday for the last fire show before Labor Day. As always, FIG Productions will be on the 1s and 2s, playing all kinds of awesome music for the whole family. Free admission for all.

Grab a Marina Burger or two until 8 PM. Check out the great menu, including burgers, tacos, fish and chips, and more. $3 tacos, wine or beer, on Fire Day.

Secret Byway Vistas Hike

This Saturday at 9 am at the Pines parking lot, everyone is invited to join in a tour of the best kept secret vistas of the Sierra Vista Scenic Byway. Retired USFS back country ranger Michael Olwyler will lead a short, uphill hike to two of the most spectacular view sites in the mountains, including a view of meadows and mountain peaks as far away as Kings Canyon, and a fantastic view of the San Joaquin River Basin. Sitting on the shore of Bass Lake, it was the typical summer day with boats towing skiers and jet skis traveled up and down the lake.  Kids played in the shallows cooling off as their fathers tried to fish just a few feet away.   Mothers tended the grill fixing the days burgers and hot dogs.  Occasionally a flock of geese would swim by looking for a leftover hot dog bun.   It was a typical summer day on the lake in the Sierra Nevada Mountains but today was different.   Instead of dreading the end of the day and the drive home, everyone was looking forward to sunset and no one was leaving.   As the sky darkened the boats all started heading toward the center of the lake.  Their lights dancing on the shimmering water.  With just a hint of light left in the sky, there was a sudden thunderous boom and bright flash of light.  The much anticipated 4^th of July fireworks had arrived and the crowd roared in yells of applause and approval.  Someone in the distant started singing the Star Spangled Banner, somewhat out of key, and everyone joined in to help him out.

Having arrived early we had picked a prime spot to view the fireworks as they exploded over the lake and high above the pines.  And it was better than we had anticipated.  Seeing a fireworks show at Bass Lake is like getting two shows for the price of one as the blooms reflect in the now smooth ripples upon the lake.   Occasionally one would go extra high and light up the entire length of the lake.   All too soon, the Grand Finale started lighting the shore almost as bright as it had been during the day.   The crowd once again roared to life and applause could be heard up and down the lake as the boat all blew their horns.

What a spectacular way to spend the 4^th of July.

The 58th Annual Loggers Jamboree, held at the North Fork Recreation Center, pays tribute to the loggers of time past and those still keeping the tradition alive today. Participants in the Jamboree help us appreciate and honor the loggers craft and hard work, while keeping us entertained through out the competition. More info here.
